Compostable Packaging Labeling Requirements in Washington and Colorado

Washington and Colorado recently enacted new labeling requirements for compostable products.

Now, all compostable foodservice products must:

  • Be beige, brown, tinted green or utilize green symbols, colors, stripes, marks or design patterns.
  • Be certified compostable by ASTM D6400 or D6868 standards.
  • Display a certification logo indicating compostability.
  • Include the word "compostable" where feasible.

Rest assured that the certified compostable packaging we offer already complies with these regulations, excluding clear unprinted bioplastic containers like salad bowls and clamshell containers.

As replacements for these items, we're offering a new collection of green-tinted containers with more coming soon! These items are certified compostable through BPI and perform just like our unprinted bioplastic items.
