Greenware FAQs
What is Greenware packaging made from?
Greenware products are made in the USA, primarily from Ingeoâ„¢ biopolymer, a type of polylactic acid (PLA) resin derived entirely from starchy plants like corn. The line also uses other annually renewable materials.
Are Greenware cups and containers truly compostable?
Yes. Greenware cold drink cups, lids, portion cups and other items are certified compostable (e.g. BPI certified) to standards such as ASTM D6400 or equivalent. They are compostable only in industrial or commercial composting facilities.
Can Greenware handle hot and cold foods / beverages?
Greenware PLA products are designed for cold food and beverage applications. PLA softens at higher temperatures, so hot liquids or foods above PLA’s thermal threshold are not recommended.
How should I dispose of Greenware products in my area?
You should ideally dispose of Greenware items in a facility that accepts commercially compostable products. Since not all municipalities have such facilities, it’s important to check locally. If no facility exists, disposing them with regular waste may be your only option.
